The project, which began in 2021, was based on an interest in researching the vestiges and manifestations of African memory present in the municipality of Nepomuceno located in the  countryside of  Minas Gerais State -Brazil. The researchers are working to rescue cultural elements present in local Afro-Brazilian communities, possibly remnants of the quilombos that existed in the region. Based on the material found, the possible developments of this culture in today's society are analyzed, as well as the living conditions of these individuals and their relationship with work. Some of the people interviewed still live in a situation of erasure,  known as the 'social whitening event', not recognizing themselves as important black figures in the community or still unaware of their own history and relationships with the era of slavery, even when the place where they were born was registered as a remnant of a quilombo. The photographic record together with the project was justified by strengthening the bonds of memory between different generations, enabling the recreation of ties of belonging and permanence of people in the municipality, redefining their presence in the city and rewriting their perceptions about themselves.
