Mature dancers are increasingly showing that it is possible to mature through dancing. “Any movement can be material for dance, any body can dance, any procedure can be an instrument for composition.” Ligia Tourinho and Eusébio Silva
Maturity and artistic practice have brought stories and new perspectives to dancing bodies, thus contributing to other aesthetics in the field of arts. The paradigm of the young and virtuous dancer has not yet been deconstructed. Dance productions in maturity are still seen as a decline of aging bodies instead of a new artistic form of dance that continues to resonate.
This project aims to bring to light the stories that have been multiplying of older artists who persist in working with dance. Understanding aging and continuing a career as a dancer is not only a life stance, but also a political one, assuming oneself in the face of exclusions in contemporary society. This project can be seen as a challenge to the common sense that only young bodies can dance professionally. It can be seen as an exaltation of these people who continue to develop, who continue to produce art and bring authenticity to the dance experience.
