This is the beginning of an ongoing project that investigates the expansion of lithium extraction in the Jequitinhonha Valley and its profound environmental, social, and economic impacts on local communities and ecosystems. As lithium becomes the “new gold” of the global energy transition, the region faces growing environmental risks, territorial transformation, and social instability linked to large-scale mining operations.

The project focuses on the relationship between extraction, territory, community routines, and the broader consequences of development driven by the global demand for lithium. But more than anything, this project is about hope and environment reframe by resilience, collective memory, that becomes a common bond between them and their affection for the land.
